June 2007

We are almost through week one of Jenna’s new daycare. We really, really like it. It makes me sad that we didn’t have her in it earlier! She is already signing. They got her doing that after 2 days. Her most frequent sign is “more” when she’s eating. I can’t imagine that this kid would ever need to know the sign for “finished,” because she never seems to be finished. I don’t think she would stop eating if we didn’t stop giving her food. But now I feel bad because she still asks for more even when there is no more! She’s all about the fruit. She shoves a couple of pieces of fruit in her mouth and is signing for more before she even swallows them. So we’ll just have to make her understand “all gone.”

The bad thing about her liking her new daycare is that she probably doesn’t want to come home! When we pick her up, she laughs and runs away, the same way she plays with us at home sometimes. But the other kids run to their parents and she runs away. Is there something wrong with that??? She still doesn’t like me to leave in the mornings when I drop her off, so I have to sneak out while she’s distracted.

A blog post seems incomplete without pictures, but I don’t have any good new ones at the moment. One thing I’m struggling with lately is whether to cut Jenna’s hair. Her bangs are in her eyes all the time! I used to clip it up or put it in a ponytail on top of her head, but she won’t allow that anymore. She will let me do it, but within 3 seconds, she has the clip out and usually in her mouth. With the ponytail, she just pulls all the hair out of it so it sticks up all over the place and the rubber band is only left hanging onto a few little hairs. She usually does this while eating, so she ends up with milk or sauce or chunks of fruit in her hair. My options are to wait until she’s finished with this phase (assuming it’s a phase), or cut her bangs. I really don’t want to do that! Has anyone else had their little girl outgrow this, or is it likely to last a long, long time?

Yesterday was Jenna’s first day at her new daycare. I don’t want to jump the gun, but I’m very impressed. She was very pleasant all evening. I don’t know if it had anything to do with her day, but happy Jenna=happy parents! I love the teacher in her room…the one I met, anyway. The other one was out, so they had a substitute. Yes, they have “floaters” at this place, which is already an improvement. At her other place, they stuck her wherever they had extra room. Here, they all have snack time, lunch, and nap time together, and they do activities together. And they teach them to sign, which we never did with her. When we picked her up, the teacher said she did great, but she was really hard to get down for naptime. :) That’s our girl!

I did cry after I dropped her off because I felt so guilty for leaving her at a new place with new people. But I know she did just fine after I left. I know because I called to ask. :)

Is anyone else as sick of this rain as I am? I miss the sun! Of course, our back yard does look amazing…
